Em 1912, o prefeito de Tóquio deu à cidade de Washington, DC, 3.000 cerejeiras para homenagear a amizade entre os Estados Unidos e o Japão. Hoje, as flores rosadas e brancas proporcionam uma das vistas mais apreciadas da região. E o Festival Nacional das Cerejeiras é o evento mais popular da região, atraindo centenas de milhares de visitantes a cada ano. 1. Admire as cerejeiras
Veja as famosas árvores em flor caminhando pela Independence Avenue , ao longo da Tidal Basin , até o Jefferson Memorial ou faça uma excursão gratuita com um guia, que recontará a história de como as árvores vieram para Washington, DC. Para apreciar a vista da água, alugue barcos a remo na Tidal Basin . Existem também cruzeiros no rio Potomac que oferecem vistas deslumbrantes dos monumentos e das cerejeiras.
2. Aproveite os eventos culturais

4. Veja a imaginação das crianças voar alto
De um safári de fotos a exibições especiais de museus, o festival apresenta atividades para crianças de todas as idades. Dois dos eventos mais populares são Family Days e Blossom Kite Festival . Os Family Days no National Building Museum acontecerão nos dias 24 e 25 de março e incluirão atividades práticas, como origami e caligrafia, que permitirão que as crianças explorem a arte e o design japonês. O Blossom Kite Festival , que será realizado no dia 2 de abril, mostrará criativos fabricantes de papagaios e apresentará competições, onde os empinadores de papagaios exibirão seus truques nas alturas.
