Campanha Antietam: Lee invade Maryland

Este é um driving tour  histórico e pitoresco por um caminho de 145 quilômetros que segue o percurso feito durante a Campanha de Maryland de Robert E. Lee, em setembro de 1862, em sua tentativa de obter apoio externo para a causa sulista. A campanha resultou na vitória da União, da qual o presidente Lincoln precisava antes de anunciar uma proclamação que libertava os escravos.

Dia 1: Famosas travessias de balsa e a legendária “Ordem Perdida”

Leesburg (Loudoun Museum)

O passeio pela Campanha de Antietam começa aqui, onde Lee descansou com o Exército do Norte da Virgínia antes de invadir Maryland.

White’s Ferry

Uma grande parte do exército de Lee cruzou o rio Potomac em direção a Maryland por um vau três quilômetros ao norte da travessia desse moderno ferry, em White’s Ford, enquanto uma banda confederada tocava “Maryland! My Maryland!” (Maryland! Meu Maryland!)

Sugarloaf Mountain

Em momentos diferentes, a União e os sinaleiros confederados no topo da montanha observaram o exército inimigo.

Monocacy National Battlefield (Best Farm)

Este é o local provável onde a famosa Lost Order (Special Orders nº 191) foi encontrada, contendo a estratégia da campanha do general Robert E. Lee.
